A tutorial about a cheap and easy way to make a mini handbound book.
A great gift idea. Inspired by The Late Afternoon
Materials:
2 sheets white copy paper
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil
Piece of cardboard (ceral box or similar)
Pin
Needle
Embroidery thread
Cotton fabric scrap
PVA glue
Paintbrush
Instructions:
1.
Take your white copy paper. Divide pages into rectangles 9 cm x 4 cm. Cut out. We need 20 for this book.
2.
Fold each rectangle in half.
3.
Group together 5 groups of 4 sheets.
4.
Take your pin and one lot of paper.
5.
Punch 6 holes down the spine using the pin.
6.
Thread your needle with 2 strands of embroidery thread.
Begin sewing from the back. Leave a 1 cm tail. Sew from top to bottom.
8.
Sew back the other direction until you get to the top.
9.
Go back down one hole and come out the back. Trim ends.
10.
Repeat for remaing 4 groups of paper.
11.
Now you should have 5 sewn booklets.
12.
Gather booklets together and sew in a random zig zag right to left. When you get to the end, sew back to where you began.
13.
Trim ends. Set aside.
14.
Cut a cardboard rectangle 10 cm x 4.5 cm.
15.
Mark the centre top and bottom (5 cm). Mark 4 mm either side of your centre mark and score.
16.
Fold along scored lines.
17.
Cut fabric to overhang cardboard.
18.
Paint glue onto cardboard.
19.
Adhere to wrong side of fabric.
20.
Mitre corners. And glue down.
21.
Take your white paper bundle and put glue on spine and front and back pages, adhere your cover.
22.
Weigh down to dry.
