This is a tutorial for converting the lid of a cosmetics case. When completed, it will hold safety pins, sewing pins and your scissors.
HOW TO SEW A SCISSOR'S POUCH
1.
Print pattern to your desired size. Cut one plain fabric piece and one printed fabric piece for each pattern piece.
2.
Take one piece of patterned fabric and one piece of plain fabric, place them wrong sides together. Pin and machine sew, leaving a gap as shown.
3.
Turn your pieces inside out (poke corners with a skewer to help). Iron flat. Hand sew gaps closed.
4.
Place triangular piece on top of larger piece. Hand sew bottom edges of triangle.
5.
Sew a button in the middle of the triangle (sew through top layer only).
6.
Reserve a matching button and rubber band for future steps.
HOW TO SEW A MINI PIN CUSHION
1.
Cut 2 rectangles of printed fabric (10 x 15 cm). Pin them right sides together. Machine sew them leaving a 4 cm gap.
2.
Turn right side out. Iron flat.
3.
Stuff with toy fill.
4.
Pin opening closed.
5.
Hand sew opening.
6.
All done!
HOW TO MAKE THE BACKING BOARD
1.
Cut a piece of backing fabric that will fit the dimensions of your lid.
Sew a piece of ribbon or bias binding at 4 horizontal intervals to your backing fabric. This will become safety pin storage.
Hand sew the edge of your scissor's pouch to your backing fabric. Sew on your remaining button, as seen in the photo. Loop the elastic band around both buttons and insert your scissors.
2.
Take your mini pin cushion. Place it on the backing fabric. Hand sew through the base of the pin cushion and onto the backing fabric.
3.
Cut a piece of corrugated cardboard slightly smaller than your backing fabric.
4.
Prepare to glue the backing fabric to the cardboard. Preheat a hot glue gun.
5.
Fold edges over and glue to cardboard.
6.
Now it is ready to adhere to the inside of your lid. All done!
