How to Sew A Skirt Pocket (Free Pattern)

Jazz up your skirt with some cute pockets on the front. These pockets feature a contrasting backing fabric and a lace doily on the front. Read on for the tutorial and to print the free pattern.

Materials:
Same fabric as you skirt
Contrasting backing fabric (or more skirt fabric, if you prefer)
Lace doily
Sewing thread
Needle
Scissors
Sewing pins
Sewing scissors
Paper pattern
Sewing machine
Paper pattern (found at the bottom of the page)

Instructions:
1.
Print out the paper pattern. Use a pen to trace two pockets onto your skirt fabric and two pockets onto your contrasting backing fabric. Do not cut on the line, cut 1 cm outside the line.

Cut a piece of doily and pin it to the front of your pocket, with the raw edges overhanging at the top by 1 cm.

2.
Hand stitch the doily to the pocket.

3.
Fold the raw edge to the back and hand stitch it in place.

4.
Pin the contrasting fabric to the front of your pocket (covering the doily).

5.
Sew a straight stitch using your sewing machine, leaving a 5 cm gap on the right side.

6.
Turn your pocket right side out and press. Sew the opening closed by hand.

Now your pocket is ready to sew to the front of your skirt. Use a straight stitch on your sewing machine.
